A quantum lens on newborn jaundice
Quick summary and rationale for the first course I created for 🌞 Brighter Days, Darker Nights 🌚
Housekeeping: The first course I ever created was Quantum Newborn Jaundice. It is text-based at present, but I’ve been considering teaching it in video format. Let me know in the comments if you think it would be more accessible that way. In the meantime, you can access it through the link below. The beginning is free, but most of it lives behind the paywall because it was a huge amount of time to research, write, and edit. If you need a scholarship, just ask. As always, this is for informational purposes only and should not substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare practitioner familiar with your unique circumstances.
Why do we need a course about newborn jaundice? Don’t we just use phototherapy for this?
The entire paradigm of newborn jaundice is ripe for a transformation—and I hope you can become a part of it!
Bilirubin, the pigment that makes jaundiced babies look yellow, is NOT just a toxin or byproduct, but a signaling molecule with diverse biological roles, including scavenging free radicals and reducing oxidative stress1.
So when you next meet a baby (or adult) with jaundice, see that the yellowness of their eyes and skin may be their body showing a physiological response designed to reduce oxidative stress2.
An inadequacy of the current model of jaundice is that treatments only focus on reducing bilirubin.
Instead, knowing the body uses bilirubin to balance redox, we can additionally be focusing on supporting the other redox pathways—there are many endogenous antioxidants of which bilirubin is only one.
For the newborn population, we can also add lifestyle preparation during pregnancy that may prevent the manifestation of newborn jaundice altogether!
Testimonials for the Quantum Newborn Jaundice Course:
“I followed your guide and prepared my circadian rhythm by essentially living outside during the summer, getting plenty of sleep, no screens at night, waking with the sun, going barefoot. I am so happy to report that we avoided the NICU despite an ABO intolerance and I had my healthy big baby at home. He is 4 months old and has slept so well at night since day 1.”

Hey Nikko just a quick note to say thank you for the bilirubin course! I blitzed through it last weekend and had my baby on Monday afternoon. We ended up having blood incompatibility, and even though they tracked her bilirubin levels, they never went above the normal range! 🙌

The newborn jaundice course blew my mind THEY DONT TEACH YOU THIS SIDE IN NURSING SCHOOL OR IN THE NICU SPECIFIC EDUCATION & we are doing it alllill wrong?! I can tell you that doctors do not make the connection to circadian health and jaundice risks ( they also do not give the full scope of risks of phototherapy parents don't know better to question it they just blindly trust our doctors.

Hmm. My bilirubin levels are over the high mark on my blood tests. I'm wondering what the ramifications of that might be!
